HECA
Conditional Access systems as well as Digital Rights Management systems facilitate the controlled distribution and consumption of digital content. Applications include traditional multimedia pay services, B2B data transfer and premium content services for closed user groups. With HECA, the High Efficiency Conditional Access system, Fraunhofer IIS has designed a CA system especially tailored for digital broadcast systems

Overview
Efficiency – short management messages based on efficient coding and intelligent subscriber grouping
Mobile Terminals – particularly suited for mobile terminals without feedback channels Service Bundling of scrambled as well as unscrambled parts at the same time Entitlements – HECA supports different types of service entitlements Security – HECA uses a multilevel key hierarchy based on the AES algorithm Revocation – On-the-fly revocation of corrupt devices

Applications
The system operates independently of transmission protocols and broadcast media. Therefore it can be applied to almost any environment and protocol level. Scrambling complete multimedia data streams or single objects is possible. Up to now HECA has been integrated in the following standards: - DAB/MOT
- DRM/MOT
- DRM/Subchannel
- TPEG/Service Component
HECA is the Conditional Access system specified for Mobile.Info, the future platform for traffic information. It has already been integrated into BMW and Audi prototype equipment. Other possible use cases include DVB, Satellite Radio, IP-Multicast.

Fraunhofer IIS offers the following products: HECA Initialisation Server: Generates and delivers unique Device-IDs and high secure device keys based on demand of the device producer. HECA Entitlement Server: At the request of a service provider, the HECA Entitlement Server configures services and stores the entitlements and subscriptions together with corresponding service keys in an internal or external database. It controls the service setup, service prolongation as well as token reload and generates corresponding EMMs (Entitlement Management Messages). HECA Encryption Server: The HECA Encryption Server scrambles service data with the corresponding control word, periodically generates ECMs (Entitlement Control Messages), and feeds both into the transmission chain. HECA Decoder Module
A complete HECA platform comprises at least one of each component. HECA solutions can be licensed individually or in combination with other Fraunhofer IIS technologies such as audio and video codecs, digital broadcasting systems or IP streaming components.
