In the area of Digital Cinema no more film reels will be sent to the movie theaters. The DCP (Digital Cinema Package) containts encrypted digital film and audio data e.g. as well as subtitels for different languages. In order to ensure that every DCP can be shown in any movie theater worldwide, a DCI (Digital Cinema Initiatives, Hollywood)and SMPTE standard was brought to its way under the cooperation of the Fraunhofer IIS. All manufacturer which All devices that are compliant to these accepted specifications will show a standard-compliant DCP. In oder to easily create a DCP, compliant to all these requirements, or to test delivered DCPs different software tools were developed by Fraunhofer IIS.

easyDCP Analyzer

The DCP (Digital Cinema Package) can be seen as the data structure in which a movie is stored and send to be played back in digital cinemas. The DCP Analyzer was developed to verify that this structure is not corrupted and created syntactically and semantically correct to minimize the risk of errors within the production and the playout process.

The validation process concentrates on three different data format used within a DCP: MXF, XML, JPEG2000

Also information which are constraining between each data format (e.g. resolution) are verified to detect inconstancy within the DCP. A graphical user interface offers the operator to inspect easily every human readable data field. The DCP Analyzer also offers the operator the possibility to preview the visual content of the DCP within his integrated JPEG2000 media players. All operations described above can be applied on plain text and encrypted DCPs. The DCP Analyzer also can change his operational mode between INTEROP validation and SMPTE validation.
