Three-dimensional computer graphics is used for special effects, virtual realities, medical applications and for example even in archeology. The creation of content for such sort of applications is a time-consuming and therefor cost-intensive process. If a physical model of an object is available, normally, a three-dimensional geometric model is automatically generated by using a laser scanner or striped light. These methods are exact but cost a lot. At Fraunhofer IIS research on passive-working alternatives is being promoted. For this, current technologies for machine vision is used that enables the reconstruction of the three-dimensional form and shape of objects only by using image sequences shot by commerical HD cameras. This is a cost-efficient approach that will replace active methods in many cases.
