Reconstruction of Camera Movements

A great challenge is the reconstruction of the camera movement while shooting solely by using the recorded images. Based on correspondencies between the single frames and the correlation between the frames an estimation of the camera movement is possible. Fraunhofer IIS develops methods which enable the exact and reliable reconstruction of this camera movements. Additionally shots from stereo camera systems can be analyzed which allow a still more reliable estimation. This method can b e used if virtual objects should be placed within real shots and make them look as realistic as possible.

Estimation of camera movements is also important for 3D modeling of objects and for the self-localization of autonomous systems e.g. robots.
