402 MHz Body Area Network (BAN) Transceiver

ban_d

This transceiver was implemented in a low cost 0.35 µm CMOS technology. Its purpose is wireless signal transmission in medical applications. In combination with a sensor the chip is mounted on a flexible substrate and directly applied to the patient's skin. This makes cabling of the patient obsolete. The transmitted power remains below GSM phones by more than the factor of 100,000.

The chip is highly integrated. All components, as synthesizer, oscillators, amplifiers, intermediate frequency filters, and A/D converters are implemented on only few mm² of silicon.
