 HD Radio Station WZLX On The Air With Surround

World’s first fulltime, commercial HD Radio Station using MPEG Surround CBS radio station WZLX in Boston launched its new 5.1 Surround service this week on the station’s main HD channel, based on MPEG Surround technology provided by Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS and Telos Systems. ERLANGEN, Germany – Cisco has selected the MPEG-4 AAC-Low Delay codec from the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS to transmit audio in the Cisco TelePresence meeting solution, which transcends traditional video to provide a “face-to-face” meeting experience through a simple interface. The Fraunhofer codec provides a realistic sound image through several channels of full-bandwidth, music-quality audio, with the low-latency delay needed for interactive conversations. (NASDAQ: HLIT) is using Fraunhofer’s floating-point MPEG-4 High Efficiency Advanced Audio Coding (HE-AAC) and MPEG-1 Layer-2 audio coding software for the DiviCom® Electra™ family of broadcast encoders.
