Detection and Analysis of Objects and Faces
The technology behind it

For many years now, our research and development work in this area has been yielding expertise and technologies which have formed the basis for further technological advances and new applications. Learn more about how object detection and analysis technologies are made robust and equipped with real-time capability and what characterizes a state-of-the-art face detection system.
Research activities

Existing technologies are consistently improved and used as springboards for further research. Collaborating with our industry partners and participating in government-sponsored research projects, we advance research and development in exciting interdisciplinary areas. For example, we are currently working on methods for in-depth analysis of facial expressions as well as detection and analysis of apes.

Research areas and applications

Once implemented in applications, our detection and analysis technologies can aid sophisticated image enhancement for digital cameras, enabling for instance automatic focusing on faces or face-based automatic white balance adjustment. However, other disciplines and application areas can also greatly benefit from object detection technologies. One example is visual analysis of museum visitors standing in front of a user-sensitive information terminal.
