Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits
The modern technologies of the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits can be applied in many social and industrial areas:
Homecare/Telecare
In medical scenarios a large variety of data, e.g. ECG findings, blood pressure or temperature, is accumulated.
If data is acquired by means of wearable sensors (Body Sensor Units - BSUs), the Body Area Network (BAN) forwards it to a wireless information network and facilitates the mobility of the patient - according his condition - inside and also outside the hospital. In addition the Body Area Network offers the possibilities of wireless networking between the individual BSUs of the patient.
If the data is acquired from immobile measuring instruments (e.g. located at the patient's bed), a Medical Gateway offers a way to fed them into the medical information network. Authorized physicians and nurses have acces to all the data in the information network and take the appropriate treatment measures. Thus an integrated patient monitoring and treatment can be ensured and, as a consequence, monitoring the patient at home (so called Home Care) is possible. Fraunhofer IIS already successfully took part in the Home Care project "Stroke Teleservice Saar".
