Satellite Broadcasting Systems
Satellite Broadcasting draws special requirements on the terminal antennas. Most antenna designs deal with the reception of the different broadcasting systems. Many of these systems have a terrestrial component to achieve good reception properties even in difficult environments. Therefore, methods are needed to receive the terrestrial and the satellite component in a well-balanced way.
These satellite systems are very susceptible to the back-ground noise. We at Fraunhofer IIS draw attention to a minimum influence of the noise. This requires calculating the noise properties during the design of the antenna and to properly react on it. Integrated low-noise amplifiers connected to the antenna foot point provide the best performance.
Many of our designs were used as reference antennas to verify the broadcasting systems. Antennas have been developed for SDARS (XM, Sirius), WorldSpace, ESDR, DVB-SH and applications in the Ku-Band (NATALIA, MiniTerminal).
