s-net® Fraunhofer IIS's Technology for extremly Power Saving Wireless Sensor Networks
With the need for security, mobility and flexibility ever increasing, wireless sensor networks are used in virtually all areas of every day life. Characterized by distributed data acquisition, decentralized application software and mesh communication, they enable innovative solutions. The Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS has undertaken research and application development in this area for many years. Our work ranges from simple point-to-point data transmission to small, centrally controlled networks to large-scale self-organizing communication networks. Where standard wireless solutions fail to meet requirements (e. g. in terms of datarate, powerconsumption, communication range, latency or miniaturization), we develop custom systems.
Concerning wireless sensor networks Fraunhofer IIS‘s services range from pre-project consultancy on the selection of protocols to the development of custom solutions and applications. Thanks to our many years of experience with various frequency bands (402 MHz, 434 MHz, 868/915 MHz, 1.9 GHz, 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz), we are able to offer wireless solutions tailored to your specific requirements. Having partial solutions ready in the form of modules, Fraunhofer IIS also provides rapid prototyping services.
Many applications for both industrial and domestic use can be complemented with wireless sensor nodes to increase convenience and efficiency.
Fraunhofer IIS‘s s-net®-technology is designed for these three main application areas:
- durable systems for distributed data acquisition
- tracking of people and objects
- systems that autonomously perform tasks
Over the past few years, a large number of measuring, monitoring and controlling applications involving wireless sensor networks have been implemented based on the s-net®-technology. With its protocol properties, which can be flexibly adjusted, and an exceptionally low power consumption, which means a long operating time, the s-net® technology provides outstanding properties for solutions which are tailored to the customer‘s needs. The dynamic selforganization for low configuration outlay, low maintenance and robustness also contribute to the successful implementation of sensor network based solutions on the basis of s-net®.
