The IC Design department at the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS draws on 20 years of experience in designing mixed signal Application-Specific Integrated Circuits to cater to the rapidly growing complexity of mixed analog/digital systems. Our independence from manufacturers and specific technologies gives us the flexibility to provide full service solutions tailored exactly to the customer’s requirements.
As recognized expert in the field of digital systems we provide the integration services and design architected for system on chip solutions (SOC). We use deep-submicron standard cell technology, IPs intellectual property cores (IPs), and embedded software.
Our solutions can be applied across a wide variety of areas. The intelligent 3D magnetic field sensor HallinOne® is ideal for application in system solutions but also in other areas like household appliances, medical engineering and the automotive sector since it allows the implementation of robust standard CMOS systems.
We develop high-speed ICs - the key components in fast optical and wired communication links - as well as customer specific devices for frequencies between 100 MHz and 10 GHz. An outstanding example of the technological capability our RFICs is the design of a 2.4 GHz ISM transmitter chipset for localization applications.
In addition to analog/digital conversion we focus on the evaluation of small capacitive signals. State-of-the-art systems and devices take advantage of this technology, like the non-contact anti-pinch protection system of sun roofs and window lifts in modern vehicles.
Most semiconductor vendors have no interest in manufacturing ASICs in small quantities. With its Virtual ASIC Foundry Fraunhofer IIS has specialized on packaged and tested ASICs at lot sizes of only a few hundred.
