WakeUp Receiver

WakeUp receivers are low-current integrated radio receivers. They monitor the radio channel constantly and generate a digital control signal when receiving special wake-up sequences. Thus, the receivers may »wake up« e. g. a standard radio module. Efficient processes as »selective wake up« are supported by the Fraunhofer IIS solution. Battery-operated wireless sensor networks are now low maintenance as they operate in the field for several years.

The Fraunhofer IIS WakeUp receiver opens up many new application areas, e. g. remote maintenance, condition monitoring, user authentication, automated asset check-up, geo fencing and localization.
Our ultra low-current WakeUp receiver µRX1080 increases the operating time of radio receiving systems considerably. Regarding power consumption and latency the receiver is configurable in a wide range. In the default set-up a response time of 32 ms is achieved at a power consumption of only 10 µA. In addition to the µR1080, we also offer customer specific adaptions of the WakeUp receiver.

Main Features of the WakeUp Receiver IC:

  • Highly energy efficient radio receiver with only 10 µA current consumption at 3 V supply voltage
  • Constant monitoring of the radio channel
  • Two digital WakeUp output signals to control further components
  • No micro controller required
  • WakeUp detection in less than 40 ms
  • Excellent for use in wireless sensor networks with very low response time
  • Supported frequency band: 868 MHz (433 MHz possible)
  • Power supply possible through energy harvesting

RF CMOS Design

State-of-the-art CMOS processes allow the integration of analog circuits in the GHz range. Our developments range from integrated components to complete transceivers as IPs. The cells are adaptable to individual requirements and thus open the way to highly integrated miniaturized radio solutions.
