In 2009, IT2media launched Mobile WALK, a GPS-independent positioning application that helps pedestrians find their way around the cities. Not only can a user display city center maps on their cell phone, they can also determine their own location relative to the nearest store, restaurant, bank or hospital and access background information. Locations are determined based on Fraunhofer IIS‘s self-contained WLAN positioning technology.
