Project SELECT

The project SELECT stands for a combined intelligent and efficient solution for positioning, identification and cooperation. Objective is the design of an integrated RFID identification and positioning system with passive and semi-passive tags or labels. The tags communicate with the system infrastructure via conventional ultra-high frequency (UHF) technology but also via ultra-wide band (UWB) signals. Based on this high-performance communication potential, the installed transceiver nodes can locate the tag/label with greatest precision. Radar technology is to be employed to identify objects or persons without tag or label.

A primary application field is the area intra logistics or “smart manufacturing”. With a better knowledge of the exact position of raw materials, goods and products in the manufacturing chain, they can be automatically tracked throughout the entire production process. It is also possible to move around goods with so-called automated guided vehicles between the various production stations. This increases the effective exploitation of production means and shelf space.
