ISAR
Intelligent System for the automatic X-ray inspection
ISAR is a system for radioscopic image processing, which is able to detect defects such as pores and blowholes in X-ray images of e.g. die cast parts. The automatic X-ray inspection is achieved by means of a special filter called COMMED (COMbined MEDian-filter) which was developed by the scientists of the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits. The COMMED filter can detect defects without the necessity for information about the object to be inspected. Specifically, no reference images are required for the detection of defects making an exact positioning unit unnecessary.
The above animation shows defects that were detected by ISAR within a light-alloy wheel. The system provides a high-grade product evaluation according to predefined quality parameters (e.g. size and density).
The use of a highly complex filter results in many fundamental advantages compared with the conventional reference image procedure:
- No precise positioning unit is required
- Real-time image processing
- ISAR can be connected to any existing X-ray inspection system
- ISAR can control any system of coordinates
Possible application fields
- Light-alloy wheels
- Tire carcasses
- Food inspection
- Die cast parts
- Welded seams
- Wood inspection
- Printed circuit boards
- Ceramics
- Plastics
- And others
