Journaline
The new standard for digital radio information services
Journaline® is a text-based news service designed for digital broadcasting systems. It provides up-to-date textual information similar to teletext that can easily be accessed from mobile devices via a menu structure. The range of information can be manifold. Journaline is able to provide long news texts as well as automatically updated short news. Whether latest news or news related to the radio program, Journaline offers users immediate access to information according to his individual preferences. The data service is highly optimized for an efficient transmission in digital broadcasting systems and requires only very low transmission bit rates. Journaline became an international standard for digital radio in 2007. It is already featured on air by many international broadcasters and is now also available for digital radio in the US.
HECA
Conditional Access tailored for TPEG
HECA (High Efficiency Conditional Access) protects premium content for delivery to closed target groups using state-of-the-art encryption methods. It was developed for applications involving TPEG and digital distribution systems, e.g. 3G, DAB, HD Radio. Service providers can achieve new business models with flexible combinations of scrambled and unscrambled parts, and employ subscription modes including time-limited, lifetime and pay-per-use. Premium services for travel and traffic information can be received and processed from either in-car navigation devices or portable ones.
Audio technologies for Internet radio
Fraunhofer IIS supplies optimized audio en-/decoder libraries for broadcasting applications, e.g. Internet radio. This versatile family of technologies enables a faster time to market for all radio stations, service providers and streaming app developers. At the same time, the high audio compression helps to reduce the streaming costs associated with internet-based audio services.
- More Information
Surround Sound for digital radio, IPTV, Internet
Fraunhofer IIS shows the surround sound format MPEG Surround and the stereo-to-multi-channel upmix solution SX Pro. MPEG Surround is the ISO standard delivering iPod-compatible, high-quality surround sound experience at stereo bit-rates whilst remaining fully compatible to stereo devices. MPEG Surround can be distributed by online music sources, deployed in digital broadcasting services, and used with a variety of applications for portable music players and mobile phones.
SX Pro is the stereo-to-multi-channel upmix solution that enables a seamless transition from stereo to surround content distribution. The new SX Pro Version 2 offers significantly enhanced flexibility for broadcasters, including the ability to adjust the upmix to complement a station’s musical characteristics.
Preview: Unified Speech and Audio Codec
Good stereo sound at 16 kbit/s
The Unified Speech and Audio Codec – currently under standardization within MPEG – is the first audio codec worldwide that supports high-quality compression of both speech and audio signals at very low bit-rates. Applications that will benefit from the new codec are, for example, digital broadcasting services to mobile receivers and multimedia download applications via wireless networks.
easyDCP Creator
DCP authoring by 1-2-3
With the software tool easyDCP™ Fraunhofer IIS presents a solutions for small-sized production companies or post houses that allows to create a complete SMPTE-compliant DCP (Digital Cinema
Package) or a JPEG2000-INTEROP-format with only a few steps. The solution needs a standard-PC to make HD content ready for distribution to a digital movie theater.
The version easyDCP+ enables the creation of 3D DCPs and supports a content encryption according to the DCI-specifications.

ActiveAD
Digital Signage Technology
Bills, posters - one single advertisement for everybody: That was yesterday. The advertising strategy of the future uses web2.0 and digital media. Commercials and advertising information will become interactive, offer customized, target-group oriented multi-media informations. With the face and facial expression detection software SHORE (TM) we showcase a technology which can offer information corresponding to the user. SHORE (TM) can be used for new designed interactive infoscreens which provide information corresponding to the spectators in front of the screen. SHORE(TM) can be used for quantitative and qualitative market research and can be adapted to different test scenarios. Real-time analysis and documentation of the results can be included.

Digital archiving of movies
Fraunhofer IIS offers a new concept for digital film archives, adressing the principle topics - long-time archiving of digital data and access to the archived material for distribution. We are presenting a two-tier model on the basis of JPEG2000 which offers both, a high-quality long-term archiving in the so called Master Archive Package format and formats for extraction of metadata and distribution. This concepts is based on open standards to guarantee well documented and long-lasting methods for the preservation of cultural heritage in the digital age.

FlashBOX
On-board recorder for digital movie cameras
FlashBox records and displays uncompressed and compressed HD sequences in YCbCr422 or RGB 444 or Dual Stream YCbCr. Its compact size of 175 x 115 x 74 mm and its light-weight
of 1500 gramms makes it dockable to any camera or camera dolly. FlashBox records on SSD cartridges. Depending which mode is selected it can operate with two cartridges for Dual HD-SDI or with one for recording via Single Link HD-SDI. The cartridges can be connected to a server or PC for download of the takes by USB or SATA adapter. The power consumption is ca. 20 Watt so that the FlashBox can be feeded by the camera power supply.

easyDCP Player
Real-time JPEG2000 decoding of 2k content
The easyDCP Player makes it possible to display a DCP on a standard PC. The decoding process of easyDCP Player can either run on the CPU. In order to accelerate the decoding up to real-time the use of an additional graphic card is necessary. Using this technology, post processing facilities and art-house productions can build DCP playback systems on standard hardware components. The core functionality can be integrated in other post processing software to enable accelerated processing of JPEG 2000 files for e.g. compositing or color grading.
