At the 131st AES Convention, we present our new developments in the field of audio and multimedia.
BBC Audio Experiment at Wimbledon
Balancing the loudness of dialogue and ambient sound is one of the big challenges when mixing sound for TV and radio. Together with the BBC, Fraunhofer tested a new technology that gives users the chance to change this balance individually and thus enhance the speech intelligibility.
5.1 Music Streaming with MPEG Surround
MPEG Surround® is an open standard compression technology for multi-channel audio signals. The system provides high surround and stereo audio quality, bit-rates currently used for compression of stereo signals and full backward compatibility to stereo equipment.
Sonnox Fraunhofer Pro-Codec Plug-in
The Pro-Codec plug-in enables mix and mastering engineers to audition up to five codecs in real time within a DAW environment, produce an optimized mix and batch encode to multiple formats simultaneously. The Plug-In now also supports MPEG Surround for mixing multi-channel sound at stereo bit-rates and in high audio quality.
AAC Audio Metadata Technology
MPEG-4 HE-AAC is becoming a popular choice for digital broadcasting services worldwide. The importance of broadcast-related metadata as a standardized feature of this codec, becomes very acute when the requirements of program loudness normalization are taken into account.
Technology Preview: AAC-ELD v2
AAC-ELD v2 enables remote stereo broadcast contribution over a mobile IP-based network at low bit-rates and in high audio quality. Compared to discrete audio transmission delivery, it saves valuable bandwidth and can therefore be a significant component of broadcast contribution products. Visit our Paper Session P13 on October 21 at 2:00 pm to learn more about AAC-ELD v2.
