Sony Ericsson Media Manager uses HE-AAC from Fraunhofer IIS

The Sony Ericsson Media Manager software comes with the MPEG HE-AAC audio codec from Fraunhofer IIS. The Media Manager software allows users of Sony Ericsson mobile phones to convert CDs to the HE-AAC format and to load songs on their phones. The software comes with every Sony Ericsson Walkman phone.

For its Media Manager software, Sony Ericsson chose the highly optimized HE-AAC implementation of Fraunhofer IIS, the main developer of the AAC and mp3 audio format and one of the leading providers of MPEG audio codecs and multimedia systems.

HE-AAC is the most advanced audio coding scheme standardized in MPEG, providing excellent audio quality at very low bit rates. Today, most mobile music download services rely on HE-AAC, as well as mobile broadcasting services such as DVB-H or DAB+.
