MPEG Surround® – surround sound for the iPod world

MPEG Surround, the new standard delivering iPod compatible, high-quality surround sound at stereo bitrates. CES show attendees can experience MPEG Surround from a legacy iPod through a Fraunhofer-designed iPod docking station prototype. In addition, MPEG Surround is demonstrated in one of the many environments to which it is ideally suited – the automobile. With MPEG Surround, Fraunhofer brings a new level of audio fidelity to the living room, the PC, and the car. A built-in, virtual surround headphone mode lets consumers enjoy surround sound even on portable devices such as iPods, mobile-TV receivers and 3G phones. Music labels including Eagle Rock Entertainment and Telarc International have endorsed this enhanced music standard.

SX Pro® – upgrade your stereo music to surround sound

SX Pro upmix technology, now available in an improved version 2.0, is the ideal solution for all types of CE equipment during the transition from stereo to surround sound. Consumers can use SX Pro to upgrade their stereo material into high-quality multi-channel sound without changing the original sound image or adding artificial effects. SX Pro offers both a manual mode with a high degree of control over the up-mix process and a fully automated mode. One of the largest commercial German broadcasters, “Antenne Bayern,” uses SX Pro to upgrade its stereo program for high-quality 5.1-Internet radio. Listen to their web radio live at booth #3219.

SX Pro can also be applied to surround entertainment in cars or home theatre systems, and to professional audio and video editing software.

mp3D™ – Sound Enhancement for Mobile Music

mp3D enhances the sound quality for playback of mp3 stereo or mp3 Surround over headphones. With mp3D, stereo music is enhanced to create a wider sound image and a more pleasant listening experience. With multi-channel music, mp3D allows users to enjoy realistic surround sound on stereo headphones. mp3D technology works flawlessly with any kind of music and any type of headphones. It is very resource-optimized and can be implemented in practically any mobile device, including personal music players and mobile handsets.

HD-AAC® – lossless codec makes CD-collections obsolete

The new HD-AAC codec offers music encoding with quality beyond CDs while being compatible with iPods and mobile phones. Based on the MPEG standards SLS and AAC, Fraunhofer's HD-AAC provides future-proof, lossless compression of 24-bit quality music content. Today's audio-CDs store uncompressed music in 16-bit, 44.1 kHz quality, while most music is now produced in the improved 24-bit, 96 kHz format. HD-AAC provides this high-quality sound experience to the user, the online music distributors and the consumer electronic industry.
