Objectives of the European Project ERG
Efficient use of energy is the political, social, and technical challenge of the future. ERG is an ENIAC project in which a consortium of European partners joined forces to conduct research into a supply chain that would ensure the effective use of solar energy. The project encompasses the whole supply chain, including research into new solar cells, new architectures for energy harvesting, very high efficiency energy conversion, and the use of and connection to future smart grids.
The joint focus of the German project partners is on energy conversion in solar applications. This involves applying highly efficient semiconductor technologies in order to use the power from photovoltaic generators (CPV) with as little energy loss as possible. New energy converter architectures are being researched and tested with the goal of cutting losses by around 20 percent. Demonstrators will show the energy efficiency that has been achieved.
