Stunning 5.1 surround sound experience with Android phones
Since version 4.1, Android comes with the latest Fraunhofer software natively including the versatile High-Efficiency AAC (HE-AAC) audio codec for multichannel audio. When connected to a home theater system, the Android phone becomes a true delivery platform for multimedia content in high-quality stereo and 5.1 surround sound. Fraunhofer will demonstrate how end users can conveniently integrate Android phones into the living room, and how easily app developers and streaming service providers can benefit from the Fraunhofer audio codec software in Android.
DASH streaming with HE-AAC audio codec
HE-AAC is the dominating audio codec for broadcast and streaming applications worldwide. It is available in many commercial solutions and has been deployed in more than 5 billion devices. Thanks to its unique combination of efficiency, high-quality audio and audio-specific metadata support, it is the perfect audio solution for new adaptive streaming standards such as MPEG-DASH, HLS, Smooth Streaming and more. HE-AAC enables the best possible streaming experience from bit-rates as low as 24 kbit/s for bandwidth-limited stereo operations and up to high-quality surround audio at bitrates of 64 to 320 kbit/s.
Full-HD Voice enabling the highest-quality audio for VoIP apps
The only widely adopted Full-HD Voice codec, Enhanced Low Delay AAC (AAC-ELD), delivers CD-like audio for an unrivaled communication experience without compromises. AAC-ELD elevates the audio quality of fixed and mobile phone calls to the same level as our other digital media experiences. It is also paving the way for SmartTVs to become the preferred communication device in the living room.
App developers can easily access AAC-ELD as it is now natively integrated in the leading mobile operating systems Android and iOS. Dialogue Enhancement enabling users to influence audio balance to suit their personal preference
The award-winning technology allows TV and radio audiences to individually change the balance between ambient noise and dialogue according to their preferences. TV and radio broadcasters report that reduced speech intelligibility due to background music and sound effects, as well as speech-to-music balance, are common sources of complaints from their audiences. This is particularly true for those with hearing impairments or who speak a different language. Dialogue Enhancement puts the audience in control and lets everyone set the individual volume level for speech and dialogue. Fraunhofer will demonstrate how this level of audio control is achieved at the low bit-rates required for broadcasting.
Sonnox Fraunhofer Pro-Codec Plug-in Version 2 supporting real-time auditioning and Mastered for iTunes
The award-winning Sonnox Fraunhofer Pro-Codec Plug-In enables mix and mastering engineers to audition up to five codecs in real time within a digital audio workstation environment, produce an optimized mix and encode to multiple formats simultaneously. It also comes with timesaving and intuitive tools for the “Mastered for iTunes” program, permitting real-time auditioning, clipping detection and corrections while mixing. Fraunhofer will demonstrate how the Pro-Codec implements all of Fraunhofer’s major MPEG audio codecs, including MPEG Surround and HE-AAC multi-channel, for superior audio quality in surround broadcasting and streaming.
