Energy Harvesting uses environmental energy such as heat, light or motion to generate electrical energy. Using thermal generators or piezo materials and highly optimized voltage transformers, minimal amounts of energy from the immediate environment can be used to supply small electrical consumers such as sensors or radio transmitters. This results in maintenance-free systems with unlimited operating and service life.
Especially in the industrial environment, production and processes in the course of Industry 4.0 are increasingly digitized and mobile. Real-time position information for location-based services (LBS) thus provides the basis for the realization of location-based applications.
awiloc® is a software solution developed by Fraunhofer IIS, which has been specially developed for indoor positioning and can be easily integrated into a wide variety of apps. awiloc® is a licensable, autarkic WLAN and BLE positioning and is e.g. used in the areas of Industry 4.0 and Lone Worker Protection.
s-net® lays the foundation for wireless connection with and positioning of things and people. As s-net® requires low power consumption and enables bi-directional multi-hop data communication, it offers the best prerequisites for IoT applications in production, logistics and building automation.
s-net® is available as a commercial radio module at the international distributor "EBV Elektronik".
With a new high-speed link it is possible to transfer data rates of 16 Gbit/s in real time using a single copper cable. The physical layer is ideal for high-bit-rate data streaming with real time requirements used in driver assistance systems with machine vision, but also for connecting mobile devices as well as for multimedia applications in vehicles. Consuming less than one watt for every transmitter/receiver pair, the new physical layer can transmit 16 Gbit/s over a single twisted pair cable 10-15 m long. Application areas include production automation and robotics, i.e. in the field of environment detection and material testing, as well as at medical technology. Broadcasting that uses multiple cameras and HD or even 4k video streaming can also benefit from this technology. At embedded, we will be demonstrating an evaluation and test platform for the 16 Gbit/s physical layer.
The energy-efficient RFicient® radio receiver technology with a current consumption of only 3.3 µA can receive radio telegrams in three license-free frequency bands simultaneously and independently of each other. This makes positioning systems for the localization of objects in warehouses possible, but also worldwide mobile applications, such as container tracking without manual frequency switching. RFicient® is also suitable for building automation, smart lighting, electronic shelf labels, remote maintenance and control, and wireless sensor networks in general. Years of maintenance-free operation is possible with very small batteries and solar cells or with energy harvesting. The particularly short response time in milliseconds also enables real-time applications. This new and efficient RF solution approach is therefore predestined for use in the Internet of Things.

These include the concentration of nitrogen oxides (NO and NO2), ozone (O3), sulphur compounds (H2S and SO2) and carbon monoxide (CO). Technically outstanding are an automatically scaling measuring range and a housing individually adapted to the special requirements of your application. Thus, the system achieves a consistently high data quality even with changing environmental parameters.
