Energy Harvesting uses environmental energy such as heat, light or motion to generate electrical energy. Using thermal generators or piezo materials and highly optimized voltage converters, minimal amounts of energy from the environment can be used to supply small electrical consumers like sensors or radio transmitters. This results in maintenance-free systems with unlimited operation and stand-by time.
TRILUM is a wireless pick-by-light system developed by Fraunhofer IIS for simple and mobile order handling. The order picker is shown the correct bin and the quantity to be withdrawn via a digital display. By means of the wireless networking technology s-net®, the Pick-by-Light system is optimized for mobile application scenarios - a bi-directional multi-hop technology that ensures robust and energy-efficient data communication through a self-organizing mesh radio network.
With continuous recording of environmental parameters in the industrial environment, high product quality can be achieved and compliance with health regulations can be demonstrated. Our EnsiroEMMA measuring system can be equipped with various electrochemical sensors for a wide range of applications. To generate an extensive database for analyses, measurements can be carried out several times per hour.
Moving components of industrial automation systems often require connections to a central control system with very short cycle times. In order to achieve free rotation up to 360° a wireless connection is required. Therefore Fraunhofer IIS has developed an ultra-reliable low-latency communication technology. It is deployable as a wireless extension or even as a substitute for wired fieldbuses.
With cognitive sensors manufacturing workflows are made transparent, the status is visualized and the quality is assured. The solution is compact, low power consuming, wirelessly connected and cost-effective. As a retrofit solution it is able to digitalise work steps with many existing handheld tools. It is combined with localization systems to ensure that the work steps are done at the correct location. Using machine learning methods new work processes can be added interactively.
