Energy-saving WakeUp-Receiver for the “Internet of Things”

Erlangen/Munich, Germany, November 3, 2014 – electronica, Hall A, Booth 113: The WakeUp-Receiver developed by the Fraunhofer IIS can continuously operate and receive wireless signals for years on a µ-Watt power source. The device, which functions without a microcontroller, boasts a fast response time of 32 ms and is suitable for around-the-clock monitoring of wireless sensor networks. Power can be supplied via energy harvesting technology.
 

Fraunhofer Technology Enables Efficient Networks in Vehicles for Data Rates up to 10 Gbit/s

Erlangen/Munich, Germany, November 3, 2014 – electronica, Hall A, Booth 113: Scientists from the Fraunhofer IIS in Erlangen will present a new high-speed link at electronica in Munich from November 11 to 14. Using the 10+ Gbit/s physical layer for a simple twisted pair wireline data transmission, it is possible to transfer data at rates of 10 Gbit/s in real time. The layer is ideal for high-bit-rate data streaming used in driver assistance systems, for connecting mobile devices as well as for multimedia applications in vehicles.
 

Fraunhofer IIS develops integrated, low-cost color sensor for controlling LED lighting

Nürnberg, June 2, 2014: Researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS in Erlangen, Germany have developed a color sensor with an integrated on-chip filter for controlling color and brightness fluctuations that can occur with LEDs. Nanostructured metal layers for spectral filtering, combined with an underlying layer of photodiodes, can be utilized in a feedback loop to control colors, thus ena-bling defined color perception. The low-cost CMOS (complementary metal ox-ide semiconductor) process used to manufacture the color and multispectral sensors promises broad utility. Researchers will be presenting a prototype at the SENSOR + TEST trade fair in Nürnberg from June 3 to 5, 2014 (hall 12, exhib-it booth 12-537).
 

German research institute Fraunhofer IIS/EAS presents pioneering developments at DAC 2014 in San Francisco

May 22, 2014: Visitors to this year’s Design Automation Conference (DAC) in San Francisco from June 1st to 5th will be able to learn about the most recent research results from the German Fraunhofer Institute IIS/EAS. At this leading conference, it will present the software COSIDE®, which opens up for developers advanced capabilities in the simulation and modeling of highly complex technical products. Another area of focus will be new methods for the design of interposers for 3D-integrated circuits.

Fraunhofer IIS to host EMEA finals of the 2014 Freescale® Cup for aspiring engineers

July 7, 2013: At this year's European finals of the Freescale Cup held in France, Germany's budding engineers failed to reach the podium. Next year they'll get another chance, but on their home turf. The EMEA (Europe Middle East Africa) finals of the Freescale Semiconductor Cup will be hosted in Germany, April 29-30, 2014 on the campus of the Fraunhofer IIS in Erlangen who is collaboration partner.

International Premiere of COSIDE® at the DAC 2013 in Austin, Texas

May 21, 2013: The largest EDA event, the Design Automation Conference (DAC) in Austin, Texas, is to be held for the 50th time in 2013. IIS/EAS will use this anniversary in order to introduce COSIDE®, its new design software tool, on the international stage. It provides developers of highly complex technical products with innovative options in the fields of simulation and modeling.
