Knowing where to go in virtual worlds!

Erlangen/Nuremberg, March 18, 2015: Virtual reality (VR) makes it possible to immerse oneself in new and unfamiliar computer worlds. This technology features strengths that industrial companies, architects and city planners are finding increasingly important for their planning and training processes. To support such applications, researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS are now offering high-performance positioning technology that can be integrated into these systems. Precision positioning allows multiple VR users unrestricted mobility in both indoor and outdoor environments.

Fraunhofer IIS to introduce RFID, telemetry and antenna systems for Industry 4.0 at CeBIT

Research Project NAPA Takes Pedestrian Navigation to the Next Level

Nuremberg/Kamp-Lintfort, December 19, 2014 – The NAPA navigation receiver (navigation receiver chipset for high-precision pedestrian navigation) opens new possibilities with easy app-based pedestrian navigation and orientation. Funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, NAPA is a joint project of Garmin Würzburg, HERE Europe B.V., IMST GmbH, NavCert GmbH, RWTH Aachen, University of Koblenz-Landau, and the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS.
 

Fraunhofer IIS launches “GOOSE” with the aim of developing a GNSS receiver with an open software interface

May 06, 2014: Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS is participating in the “GOOSE” project funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. The aim is to develop the first GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) receiver with an open software interface. The project is headed up by the German Aerospace Center (DLR) with the involvement of navigation technology specialist navXperience GmbH, German manufacturer of GNSS technology, and the University of the German Federal Armed Forces in Munich (UniBW).

More reliable and accurate localization

Feb 25, 2013: A new algorithm from Fraunhofer IIS detects motion reliably and accurately. It can significantly improve existing localization solutions, is easy to implement, and is independent of external infrastructure. Suppliers of localization technology can test the algorithm in a live demonstration at embedded world in Nuremberg from February 26 to 28, 2013. The demonstration will take place in Hall 4 at Booth 4-128.

High Precision in Road Construction: Use Of Satellite Navigation For Asphalt Machines

May 09, 2012: The Fraunhofer IIS, together with MOBA and other partners, has successfully concluded the „ASPHALT“ project (Advanced Galileo navigation System for asPHALt fleeT machines). The concluding meeting took place close to Enspel (Westerwald). With the aid of satellite navigation, road construction can be significantly improved in the future. To this end, the IIS has developed a special Galileo/GPS/EGNOS receiver.
