Prof. Randolf Hanke is deputy director of Fraunhofer IIS. In addition he is director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Nondestructive Testing IZFP in Saarbrücken and holds the chair for X-ray microscopy at the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg.

Main Research Fields

  • Digital image processing, pattern recognition for the definition of characteristics for classification tasks in the automated image data analysis
  • X-ray physics, X-ray beam generation and detection (directly and indirectly converting sensors) as well as interaction between X-rays and matter
  • Radioscopy systems for various inspection tasks
  • Computed tomography in metrology, material characterization, material inspection (composite materials, light metals, polymers) and biology
  • Laminography (technique  for reconstructions on the basis of incomplete data sets)
