Giovanni Del Galdo has been Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS in Erlangen since November 1, 2025. In this role, he assumes joint responsibility for the institute’s core research areas microelectronics, sensor technology and data acquisition, as well as signal processing and communications.

After completing his studies in Telecommunications Engineering at Politecnico di Milano, he earned his doctorate in the Communications Research Laboratory at Technische Universität Ilmenau in 2007. That same year, he joined Fraunhofer IIS in Erlangen, where he worked in the field of audio technologies. In 2012, he was appointed professor at TU Ilmenau, where he led the Wireless Distribution Systems/Digital Broadcasting (DVT) research group. Following its renaming to Electronic Measurements and Signal Processing (EMS) in 2018, the group became a department within Fraunhofer IIS, with Giovanni Del Galdo assuming its leadership.

His appointment as University Professor of Information Technology and Electronics at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, effective November 1, 2025, coincides with his designation as Director of the Institute.
