IC – Design Talents

Measures for sustainably more skilled workers in chip design

In the BCDC, we are working in the IC - Design Talents pillar to expand and consolidate competitiveness by securing chip design expertise in Bavaria.

Specifically, we are actively recruiting young talent to counteract the shortage of skilled workers. We want to significantly increase the number of qualified specialists in chip design and offer fast, certified further training for graduates and young professionals to become experts. These courses are also aimed at companies that want to further qualify their own employees.

We are aimed at graduates and students of electrical engineering and related fields of study as well as career changers from other disciplines.

As BCDC, we follow the Fraunhofer mission to train specialists in future technologies and can draw on our many years of experience in practical training in both research and industrial projects. In theoretical training, we use our partnerships with leading universities and colleges and our connection to training and further education programs from, for example, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the EU.

At the BCDC, we expect to offer a trainee program for Analog IC Design and Test & Validation for accelerated practical training from October 2024, which will be open to career starters and company employees.  Two further trainee programs are planned from April 2025: Digital IC Design and Systems Engineering.

The trainees will work on the research and development content of the BCDC funding project and will be trained as digital, analog and mixed-signal designers, system engineers or test and verification engineers. The qualification is rounded off by the transfer of applied specialist knowledge for the corresponding job profile.

Another component of the IC - Design Talents pillar is the conception of "Summer Schools", which are intended to provide interested students with initial content on chip design and get them excited about it.
