Booth #CS64
We look forward to connecting with you in Barcelona from March 03-06 at booth CS64 – simply drop in or schedule a meeting with one of our experts.
IVAS (Immersive Voice and Audio Services) is the cutting-edge 3GPP voice codec that redefines communication and telephony through immersive audio experiences. It improves call quality and provides more realistic ad-hoc and multi-party conferencing, which can improve focus and reduce fatigue during calls and virtual meetings. IVAS transports users to a new level of audio immersion by conveying the realistic acoustic images of various modern life scenes as they occur in outdoor as well as indoor spaces like offices, homes, and industrial environments. This is achieved through advanced rendering capabilities for a wide range of devices including headphones, car speakers, soundbars, and VR headsets. Designed specifically for mobile communication, IVAS is optimized for highly efficient compression with low complexity and minimal delay. Building on the EVS (Enhanced Voice Services) technology, IVAS is backwards compatible with this widely adopted codec used in 4G and 5G voice services (VoLTE and VoNR), making it the ideal choice for the future of mobile immersive audio.
Discover the IVAS experience in a real-time phone call that integrates our upHear Microphone Processing technologies, demonstrating how Fraunhofer’s cutting-edge innovations work together to deliver the best user experience.
The upHear range of solutions enhances the sound quality of any content from voice signals to immersive audio masterpieces. On the way into and out of the device, our technologies provide pristine audio pickup as well as faithful reproduction – from classic stereo setups up to complex scenarios with multiple devices.
The upHear Microphone Processing technologies make the IVAS exhibit stand out even more! The Directional Voice Isolation captures multiple speech sources separately. This makes it possible to manipulate the perceived position of the individual voices during a call, change their volume, and even mute them entirely. The result can be experienced in a real phone call.
LC3/LC3plus was jointly developed by Ericsson and Fraunhofer IIS to address the drawbacks of today's wireless communication platforms. The low complexity of the codec meets the requirements of wireless communication platforms such as Bluetooth, DECT, and VoIP terminals. The extremely low delay of the technology makes it ideal for high-end gaming headsets and audio systems and the improved robustness ensures interruption-free phone calls. LC3plus is qualified for the Japan Audio Society Hi-Res Audio logo.
At MWC, we will showcase LC3plus Lossless, which ensures a consistently great user experience by switching seamlessly between lossless and lossy modes of operation. We will also present the latest implementations into CE devices such as the AKG N5 Hybrid earbuds and the Sony ECM-S1 streaming microphone.
Fraunhofer IIS has been shaping the world of Audio for over 30 years. The current generation of audio codecs covers all possible applications and requirements of the modern media age.
xHE-AAC is the latest generation of the renowned AAC codec line and already used in Netflix, Facebook stories, and Instagram Reels. The technology is natively supported in iOS, Android, Fire OS, and Windows. It provides DASH/HLS streaming at 12-320+ kbit/s, mandatory loudness and dynamic range control, and improved speech quality as well as stereo imaging. The new anchor loudness feature focuses on speech-gated loudness measurement. It normalizes loudness based on speech segments to ensure a consistent audio experience without volume fluctuations.
MPEG-H Audio is a comprehensive Next Generation Audio (NGA) system with advanced personalization and accessibility options. It enables the creation and delivery of personalized immersive audio, which ensures accessibility through dialogue enhancement and audio description options. Sports broadcasts, for instance, can become customized experiences as MPEG-H Audio makes possible the selection of a language or favorite commentator. The playback is automatically optimized for the individual scenario and there are tools and solutions for the entire broadcast chain.
5G and 6G mark a new era in mobile communication, but they come at a price: the increase in data volume leads to a significant increase in energy requirements. With the ambitious CO₂ reduction targets the pressure to take effective measures is growing. That is why we are focusing on base stations, which account for over 70 percent of power consumption in mobile networks. With our research in network energy savings we investigating how base stations can be intelligently set to different wake and sleep states to minimize energy consumption depending on data volume. Our 6G-capable simulator allows us to test different sleep modes. Visit our booth at MWC 2025 to see how we support climate protection through innovative network energy savings technologies.
We are excited to meet you at MWC Barcelona! Just schedule a meeting or stop by our booth CS64 !
