Project Groups are smaller units within Fraunhofer IIS that have the potential to grow into a department, research establishment or an institute.
Fraunhofer IIS began collaborating with the University of Passau in 2017. Since then, the FORWISS Institute at Passau and the Development Center for X-ray Technology at Fraunhofer IIS in Fürth have built strong professional ties, particularly in the field of knowledge-based image processing.
Based in Passau, the research group on Knowledge-Based Image Processing and Visualization plays a central role in the “Big Picture” project, developing advanced 3D image processing methods for large-scale datasets—such as those generated in XXL-CT. Their work combines advanced mathematical image processing techniques with machine learning.
Fraunhofer IIS has been working very closely with the Otto Friedrich University in Bamberg since 2011. In close collaboration with the Chair for Business Administration, particularly in the area of supply chain management (SCM), this group carries out research in the following fields: utilizing cyber physical systems in value chains, economic impact of digitalization on personal and work lives, models/methods/market knowledge for the development of IT services in logistics and SCM.
Fraunhofer IIS is working with individual schools at Bamberg University to create a center for business models in the digital world. The business models will be examined from various perspectives with the aim of helping companies prepare their organizations to meet the challenges of tomorrow's digital world.
