State-of-the-Art Acoustics for Audio Research and Development
The large sound laboratory Mozart is the centerpiece of nearly all audio research and development activities at Fraunhofer IIS. As a reference listening room, it forms the core of a studio complex comprising several rooms with different acoustic characteristics. All rooms can be flexibly connected with each other in terms of audio and video.
The Mozart room supports scientific listening tests and audio evaluation in all common and immersive loudspeaker formats, including 5.1, 7.1, 7.1+4H, 9.1+6H, and 22.2. Its spacious floor area of 70 m² also provides ample space for virtual reality (VR) applications.
The adjacent Stravinsky control room supports monitoring in formats up to 5.1+4H and is equipped with a state-of-the-art digital broadcast mixing console. An additional 22.2 listening room, Bach, provides a more lively acoustic environment. Dedicated headphone rooms further expand the range of applications of the Fraunhofer IIS sound laboratory.
A selection of standard microphones is available for acoustic measurements and recordings. Various dummy heads are available for binaural measurements.
