Two Emmy awards for Fraunhofer IIS

Ingo Hofmann mit dem Emmy Award

The MPEG Systems Group, which includes experts from Fraunhofer IIS, was honored with the Technology & Engineering Emmy Award from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for the Common Media Application Format technology. Ingo Hofmann, a co-author of the standard, accepted the award on behalf of the Fraunhofer team.

Another Fraunhofer IIS team accepted an Emmy for the JPEG XS video codec.

Dr. Christopher Mutschler, Dr. Alexander Rügamer, Dr. Tobias Feigl, Dr. Felix Ott, Lucas Heublein, and Thorben Wegner from Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg received the Best Paper Award at the PLANS Conference in Salt Lake City for their paper titled GenAI for Energy-Efficient and Interference-Aware Compressed Sensing of GNSS Signals on a Google Edge TPU.

Negar Hajijalili won the Green ICT Award 2025.

Negar Hajijalili received the Green ICT Award at the Green ICT Connect 2025 conference for her master’s thesis conducted at Fraunhofer IIS Network Energy Saving with Refinement of Cell DTX.

Dr. Andreas Brendel received the award from the European Association for Signal Processing (EURASIP) for his dissertation titled From Blind to Semi-Blind Acoustic Source Separation Based on Independent Component Analysis.

Best Paper Award at the SMC-IT-Conference

Moritz Thome, together with Martin Ottens from Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU), received the Best Paper Award at the IEEE Conference on Space Mission Challenges for Information Technology (SMCIT) 2025 for their paper titled Infrastructure for In-Space Radiation Monitoring proven on a GEO Satellite Mission.

Best Paper Award – Winner at AICAS

Bijoy Kundu, Roland Müller, Yogesh Patil, and Ralf Brederlow received the Best Paper Award at the 7th IEEE International Conference on Artificial Intelligence Circuits and Systems (AICAS) for their paper titled A 107 TOPS/W Instruction Controlled Scalable 8bit Precision Analog In-Memory Computing Core with Flexible Kernel Routing for Embedded Applications.

Best Paper Award at the Picture Coding Symposiums

The paper TreeNet: A Lightweight Model for Low-Bitrate Image Compression by Mahadev Prasad Panda, Purnachandra Rao Makkena, Srivatsa Venkatachari Prativadibhayankaram, Prof. Siegfried Fößel, and Prof. André Kaup from FAU received the Best Paper Award at the Picture Coding Symposium 2025.
