Mobile World Congress 2024

From February 26th to 29th, one of the most important events in the mobile technology industry took place in Barcelona, Spain: The Mobile World Congress (MWC). The positioning and networks team of Fraunhofer IIS presented four innovative exhibits this year, at two different locations within the congress.

Dynamic Next-Gen 6G Simulation: 6G RIS 3D Simulator

© Fraunhofer IIS

Location: Fraunhofer at Hall 5, Booth F31 (5F31)

Get a firsthand look at our specialized 3D Simulation for the new infrastructure element Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS). Design your own 3D RIS-assisted mobile radio system with our cutting-edge simulation tool at the fair. Beyond enhancing wireless communication, by dynamically shaping the radio frequency environment, RIS has potential to boost wireless positioning systems.

Transforming connectivity with AI: Research Project XGDensify

Location: Fraunhofer at Hall 5, Booth F31 (5F31)

XGDensify aims to design and implement automated indoor and outdoor networks, leveraging cutting-edge technologies like DigitalTwins, AI/ML, Raytracing, and advanced 3D environmental mapping. This innovation is relevant to build or densify existing 5G/6G networks. The project XGDensify is being founded by the German Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport.

Precise Positioning: Nomadic 5G-Positioning-Testbed

Location: Bayern International at Congress Square 50, between Hall 4 and Hall 5 (CS50)

Experience Fraunhofer´s Nomadic 5G-Testbed for Positioning, allowing you to test 5G-Positioning capabilities directly in your own production environment and logistics applications. Discover how our 5G-Positioning technology can benefit your projects by setting new standards for accuracy and reliability.

Pushing the limits of 5G: 5G Testbeds for Industry and Automotive

© Fraunhofer IIS

Location: Bayern International at Congress Square 50, between Hall 4 and Hall 5 (CS50)

Dive into our versatile 5G Testbeds solutions, tailored for Industry 4.0 and Automotive. The 5G Testbed for Industry 4.0 offers advanced capabilities for testing and assessing communication and positioning systems. It allows the simulation of various industrial processes under realistic conditions. The automotive test bed provides the infrastructure for testing the latest 5G functionalities in a real traffic environment.

Resilience and security in next-generation wireless backhaul: Research Project RIS4NGWB

© Fraunhofer IIS

Location: Fraunhofer at Hall 5, Booth F31 (5F31)

In the rapidly evolving world of 5G/6G, ensuring your network´s security and resilience is more crucial than ever. The research project RIS4NGWB leverages Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) controlled by Software-Defined-Networking (SDN) to enable additional paths in the wireless backhaul of 5G/6G access points. This can neutralize potential interferers or temporarily increase capacity (resilience) and, most of all, it makes possible eavesdropping more difficult.
