Environment

The measurement environment consists of the SNCF Technicentre in Bischheim, a railway maintenance facility featuring numerous large metallic obstacles including train compartments, access platforms, and maintenance equipment. These structures cause significant signal reflections and distortions, creating a challenging multipath-rich propagation environment. The environment features heterogeneous radio propagation conditions, including areas with significant multipath interference and areas experiencing partial or complete signal degradation.

Measurement Setup

Eight base stations (RUs) are distributed around the measurement area, with RU 4 intentionally positioned at a greater distance to emulate base stations in larger-scale deployments. The UE is mounted on a mobile robot platform operating at speeds up to 1.5 m/s. It transmits 5G uplink SRS signals received by the base stations. The system operates at a bandwidth of 100 MHz and a center frequency of 3.95 GHz. Ground truth reference positions are captured using an iGPS system providing submillimeter accuracy at a sampling rate of 40 Hz. CIRs are sampled at 122.880 MHz and are not normalized (proportional to received signal strength, though transmit power adjustments by the UE may affect amplitude).

Dataset Description

The dataset is stored as an HDF5 file containing a single dataset named ds. Each entry corresponds to one snapshot of CIR measurements and contains the following fields:

Field Shape Type Description
antenna_mask (8) bool Indicates per antenna whether data is valid (True) or invalid (False)
CIR (2, 8, 96) float32 Complex CIR set; first dimension real/imaginary part, second dimension the 8 base stations, third dimension delay taps
reference (2) float32 Ground truth 2D reference position; mostly NaN except for a limited number of labeled samples
timestamp () float32 Timestamp in seconds; data is composed of different recordings distinguishable by jumps in timestamps
toa (8) float32 Time-of-arrival measurements in seconds per CIR, relative to the first received CIR
