Navigation Aid for Public Transportation Users: ROSE

The ROSE navigation aid offered by Friedrich-Alexander University, Erlangen-Nuremberg, combines pedestrian navigation with a location- and time-aware guide to transportation options. ROSE shows public transportation users the way to the nearest stop or station and provides information about available means of transportation and possible connections. Positions are calculated based on Fraunhofer IIS‘s self-contained WLAN positioning technology, which complements GPS in that it is suitable for indoor and urban outdoor environments. This means that positioning is possible in narrow alleys and railroad or subway stations.
