Boundless 5G

Due to the high bandwidth available for data transmission, 5G can be used for reliable and data-intensive control of devices and vehicles, even over long distances. The project "Grenzenlos5G@BYBW" is testing concrete applications under real conditions in the Swabian region. Central projects are "intralogistics of the future" and "automated loading and unloading". In order to improve the intralogistic processes on a company premises, a 5G module for control is integrated into a mobile robot platform. In particular, the use of networked tools is being tested. In addition, automated loading and shunting processes are being tested with the help of 5G positioning and driverless transport systems.
Cooperation partners are the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering and Organization IAO, the Institute for Ergonomics and Technology Management IAT at the University of Stuttgart, the telecommunications group Nokia and the Swabian Association as the project initiator. Fraunhofer IIS contributes its expertise in positioning with 5G to the project.
