Fraunhofer IIS has been researching, developing and testing localization technologies for over 20 years. The know-how of Fraunhofer IIS for localization indoors and outdoors is based on the experience in using different localization methods such as Received Signal Strength (RSS), Time Difference of Arrival (TDoA), Angle of Arrival (AoA) and Hybrid Positioning in the course of a sensor fusion.
Being actively involved in the standardization of 5G, Fraunhofer IIS has a comprehensive view on functions of the new mobile radio standard and the release of their expected implementation. For a localization solution with the new 5G mobile radio standard, our experience from standardization (3GPP) and the associated development of localization accuracy are included.
Our experts research both 5G localization in the sub-6 GHz band and in the mm-wave range. They use different localization methods such as UL-TDOA or fingerprinting as well as new approaches, like improved angle measurement through massive MIMO. First demonstrators show the possibilities of 5G localization in our 5G testbed.
