3D computed tomography / expansion of measuring field

System

Tomomat

Technical challenge

Due to the size of the instrument, it was necessary to expand the measuring field by 3x7 for the body alone. Gain knowledge of the construction and manufacture of the object (especially insights into the construction of the body).

Objective

Assess the conservation condition of the object.

The 6-string instrument has a violin-shaped body, with indentations in the upper and lower bouts and F-shaped sound holes.
Its soundboard is made of spruce, while the rest is primarily maple.

The X-ray examination was conducted to provide information about the structural properties of the instrument body.
