5G Positioning for Rescue Services

In disaster situations, such as a major fire or chemical accident, it is important that rescue services are optimally coordinated and can act quickly. The goal: to save human lives and prevent the danger from spreading further. The availability of information about the hazardous situation is important here, so that the emergency management can assess the situation reliably and quickly and coordinate the emergency services accordingly. In addition, the danger to emergency forces should be kept as minimal as possible. Thanks to its positioning capabilities, 5G can offer added value in this area by supporting the robust and reliable positioning of drones or autonomous vehicles for hazard-free situation assessment, as well as contributing to the reliable positioning of rescue forces on the scene.

Positioning of Emergency Personnel

The efficient and rapid coordination of emergency forces is important to save human lives and to contain dangerous situations, such as fires, as quickly as possible. 5G, with its positioning capabilities, can contribute to the reliable location of rescue workers at the scene of an incident, enabling a coordinated and efficient response.

Drones for the improved assessment of a situation

Large-scale hazardous situations are sometimes confusing and it is often not clear where the source of the fire or the outlet of the hazardous substance is located. In order to avoid dangers for rescue forces, 5G with its positioning capabilities can support the continuous positioning of drones or autonomous vehicles that can be used for the safe assessment of the situation.

5G: Saving lives

In order to further improve the rescue chain, the possibilities of 5G mobile communications technology are being tested. In the project, together with partners, we are developing and testing positioning and networking technologies for three fields of application: emergency calls, first aid and emergency services.
