P3RS-2 – Developing pre-operational Galileo PRS Receiver

Challenges

The European satellite navigation system Galileo enables the use of various signal services, including the Public Regulated Service or PRS for short. This service is available to specially authorized users and encrypts the signal transmitted by the satellites. This encryption is intended to prevent interference and distortion of the signal and thus ensure a high level of security and accuracy. Special PRS receivers are required to process the signals.

Project results

  • Development of 20 pre-operational Galileo PRS receivers for use in pilot projects
  • Evaluation of Galileo PRS performance by potential users and application development
  • Secured positioning, navigation and timing services
  • Deception-proof through encrypted signals

Potential for technology transfer

Use for Galileo PRS tests and PRS pilot projects of the member states.
