SDR Test Platform

Software defined radio (SDR) with flexible front end

The test platform is a complete, software defined radio transceiver and supports the development and testing of waveform technologies. With its high performance RF front end, it is suitable for the use in laboratory environments and in realistic field tests.

Due to the consistent use of the optical, digital baseband interface OBISS, the FTG is flexibly configurable and modularly expandable – and thus ideally suited for future scientific questions and tasks.

Testing capabilities

  • Testing and evaluating innovative technologies as modular components of an integrated system
  • Investigation of waveforms in terms of functionality and networking capability
  • Evaluation of innovative concepts and algorithms for future MANET-capable waveforms (MANET = mobile ad hoc network)
  • Advanced testing of new technologies such as MIMO multipath (MIMO = multiple input multiple output) and rapid frequency hopping

Features

  • Digital baseband unit
  • Flexible and fully integrated RF front end for VHF and UHF radio communications
  • Modular hardware architecture with OBISS interface between the baseband unit and RF front end
  • Interfaces for a highly modular software architecture and high performance processing framework

Front end capabilities

  • Frequency range: 30–512 MHz
  • Transmit power: 20 W
  • Noise ratio: 5 dB
  • Connectable cosite filter
  • Optional: second transmit/receive path, e.g., for 2x2 MIMO
