In recent years, the concept of the smart city has become increasingly important. Given the challenges posed by the rapid growth of urban areas, it is crucial to find innovative solutions to make cities more sustainable, efficient and liveable. An efficient water supply is of central importance, as it not only ensures the quality of life of citizens, but also has a significant impact on health, the environment and economic stability. Access to clean water is a fundamental prerequisite for the well-being of the population and the development of infrastructure. Precise measurement of water consumption plays a crucial role here. Innovative solutions are needed to optimise water consumption, detect leaks at an early stage and improve the distribution of water resources.
Technologies such as smart water meters and sensors enable precise monitoring and analysis of water consumption patterns, minimising inefficient use and water lost through leaks. Smart cities use modern technologies not only to optimise traffic and reduce energy consumption, but also to make the water supply sustainable.
By intelligently networking different systems and data sources, urban infrastructures can be comprehensively improved. This leads to a higher standard of living for residents and at the same time supports the responsible use of water resources.
A central component of the smart city is the intelligent networking of devices and systems. This is where mioty, an innovative wireless protocol developed specifically for the Internet of Things (IoT), proves particularly useful. mioty enables reliable and energy-efficient communication between different IoT devices and applications, which is crucial for the implementation of smart solutions in urban spaces. With its features such as scalability and long range, mioty contributes significantly to the realisation of smart cities by ensuring seamless data transmission and networking.
Schönborner recently took part in a comprehensive training course on "How to get started with mioty". This training focussed on the integration of mioty into the smart taps, which are able to capture precise readings from water pipes and transmit them to a central system. The implementation of mioty technology ensures reliable and efficient data transmission, enabling the company to monitor water consumption in real time and identify potential problems at an early stage. This innovative solution not only helps to optimise resource management, but also supports sustainable development and the responsible use of water resources.
A prototype is currently being developed to demonstrate the integration of mioty technology into the smart taps. As part of the training, the participants learnt how such a prototype can be created efficiently. Future support will also include product development and integration on new platforms to develop customised technical solutions that meet the specific requirements of the project.
