GNSS Receivers with Open Software Interface (GOOSE)

Challenges

Until now, development chains for professional GNSS receiver software have not covered the entire path from the idea to final product integration. Now, as part of the GOOSE project (GNSS receiver with open software interface), a platform has been developed that provides access to both standardized and specific raw data. This enables the construction of GNSS receivers that overcome the limitations of existing receivers and that can be used in a host of dedicated applications. GOOSE will therefore cover the entire development chain for GNSS receiver software – from experimental platform to commercial receiver.

Project results

  • Improved development process for GNSS receiver firmware: a single platform for the entire development chain
  • Digital GNSS record & playback on laptop via USB 3.0 link
  • Embedding of application-specific software in the receiver
  • Access to all the relevant raw data (white box approach) for an improved positioning solution
  • Sensor data fusion, including ultra-tightly coupled or deeply coupled integration
  • High-precision, real-time positioning with high update rate
  • Open software interface (Application Programming Interface, API)
  • Support for the development of a positioning/RTK solution (RTKLIB) as an application example
  • Access to 20 development platforms for potential partners to test over a period of six months

Potential for technology transfer

GOOSE is a universally applicable platform that can be used in many different fields:

  • Railway
  • Construction industry
  • Agriculture and forestry
  • Surveying
  • Mining
  • Shipping
  • Aviation
  • Logistics
  • Automotive
  • Machine control
