Technologies for Digital Caregiving

Due to demographic change, the number of people in need of care is steadily increasing. At the same time, there is a severe shortage of qualified caregivers. The implementation of technological solutions can help bridge this care gap by relieving and supporting the caregiving staff while meeting the needs of the affected individuals and their families.

Various innovative technologies developed by Fraunhofer IIS can be seamlessly integrated into the daily routine of caregiving, thereby enhancing care processes:

  • Contactless visual detection and intelligent analysis of vital parameters (such as pulse, respiration, temperature, blood oxygen saturation), emotions, or pain provide valuable support to caregivers in diagnosis and therapy, particularly for individuals with limited verbal communication abilities.
  • The efficient recording and real-time processing of biosignals and sensor data using innovative sensor solutions in seating and lying arrangements, mobile platforms (robots), or medical-grade wearables support caregivers throughout the entire care cycle, from prevention and diagnosis to therapy and follow-up care.
